California Highway Patrol Practice Test

To drive a school bus in California, in addition to holding a Class B driver’s license, it is also necessary to have a California Special Driver Certificate, often referred to as DL-45. This special certificate is specifically designed for individuals who operate school buses and ensures that the driver meets all the necessary training and safety requirements essential for transporting children.

The requirement for this additional certificate emphasizes the importance of safety and regulation in driving school buses, as these vehicles carry young passengers who depend on the driver’s skills and knowledge of the road regulations. Completion of the necessary training to obtain the DL-45 certificate includes instruction on safe bus operation, emergency procedures, and understanding the specific laws that pertain to transporting school children. This enhanced level of qualification underscores the critical nature of the role that school bus drivers play in the community.
